Bias

As you studies insects, you may have noticed that some people in your family thought they were creepy while some wanted to have one as a pet. We all have different viewpoints, experiences and perspectives. Because none of us has the entire view, all of the experiences or the whole perspective - we are all biased in how we see the world. How do we know when our bias gets in the way of seeing truth? Is it possible to get rid of all bias? Watch the video under "Core" to see how bias sometimes impacts even observable science. Core: 1. Rocks!

Core: Do all of the following: 1. Go outside and find a rock you like. Maybe one that represents you I  some way. 2. Look up "Rock " in your scriptures  (or do a word study on "rock") - write down what connections you saw between rocks and faith, write your thoughts below or bring your writing to class. 3. Learn something about how your rock was probably formed. If you own the UM book, it has much to say about rock formation in chapter 6 that are interesting to learn about. Think of some parallels between how rocks are made and how faith is built. 4. Bring a discussion question to class 5. Welcome to our Eureka Blog. I am so excited for this class - I love learning from nature! This will be an interesting week as we look at some of the controversies in the study of science. I don't intend to tell you what to agree with, but I do hope this will increase your awareness and get you thinking and exploring new ideas. Core: Everyone, please prepare the following before class.
